One reason is because they can be witty or subtle, but the more important reason is that they spark conversation, even about the bad pickup line itself. However, they don't always work so don't over do it.
2. C - It never hurt a date if you bring something nice. Try to never come empty handed when going on a first date, wine, flowers, candy are all great gifts. Even a picked flower is more than sufficient.
